There are plenty of Wireless USB adapters for Windows, but are there any Linux/BSD/Solaris compatible adapters? If so, where can I grab one? If not, should I consider purchasing a PCI card? By the way, I am trying to connect a desktop to my home network.

Before looking at wireless USB adapters, consider a PCMCIA wireless card, assuming your laptop takes PCMCIA cards. It'll save you a USB port.

I'm actually attempting to connect my desktop to my home network. My laptop is fine and dandy. I don't have the money to buy Window$ XP so I was hoping for a Linux-friendly wireless USB adapter.

Ndiswrapper should make a lot of cards work, depending on what distro you use though.

Try to find a Belkin F5D7050 ver. 4 (make sure it's ver. 4 for the zydas chipset).
Also, try this site: http://linux-wless.passys.nl/
The Ubuntu forums also have pages on most compatible wireless usb adapters.
There may be others but I only have experience with the adapter I listed above. -
There should be lots to choose from with good Linux support listed on the web, like this list.
Good Luck..
