This Wubi thing looks interesting and less risky for trying out Ubuntu on my Dad's Compaq laptop.
Has anyone installed Ubuntu that way?

    *Raises hand*
It's pretty OK, just not as good as a full install.

yeah, i've used it...it works fine but like Thomas said a full install is better. If you just want to try it out, wubi is great though.

I'm not scared of partitioning and all that - made most of the mistakes once or twice so have an idea what to do now. So regular install is better. Good to know

Wubi might not be bad way to check out Ubuntu, although I've never had the reason to use.

    Hi, Zoid,
That's sorta what I was thinking. But if Wubi was a really safe way to put it on my Dad's HP laptop, then see if we could get the stupid Atheros wireless to work, I thought it might be a good alternative.
This morning I'm thinking about a full install. GParted to partition, a separate "home" partition, etc.
