    Which will run better on old pc... Ubuntu 6.10 or 7.04?

    I don't think the system requirements have changed for Feisty when compared to Edgy/Dapper. You may not be able to run a lot of eye-candy successfully, but who knows.

    What are the system specs for your old eMachine?

    You should be able to use either to good effect, so I'd recommend 7.04 due to the fact that it's got so many functionality updates, OpenOffice2.2, etc. Ubuntu isn't a resource hog unless you configure it to be, and even then it's lighter than Vista.

    if ALL you want to do is play DVDs... you might want to look into something called geexbox. it's a bootable CD that sets up a Linux environment that's basically a media center of sorts. you boot from it, take the disc out, and pop your DVD in.

    Yeah, sometimes I forget to put in the most critical part, after going on and on about something else :eek:

    My point was that I suggest Feisty as well, since it's newer, better, improved...

    No matter how you configure Ubuntu, it's probably really hard to make it even close to Vista in resource consumption.
