There are many distros of Linux. Usually, each distro will have its own website where you can choose which version you can download and how (FTP, HTTP, torrent)

You'll probably want some sort of ix86 version of whatever distro you choose...

Thanks. Is linux.org the best distro or can you get combined packages from other places?

Also I was wondering about this thing called NAMP???

    Thanks again.

linux.org isn't a "distro". They don't have any software to download.

I'm curious... what is this "your own OS" that you're running currently on the machine?

Your best bet is looking at something like http://www.ubuntu.com http://fedoraproject.org/wiki/ or http://www.mandriva.com/ which are all pretty newbie-friendly distros. I answered you about NAMP in another thread. It has nothing to do with Linux.

Ubuntu is probably the best linux distro going atm, its user friendly, and fairly simple. But I've heard something about gentoo...

Gentoo is not user-friendly, or good for new users, unless you have a lot of patience and don't mind having to read a lot to get it running right.

Mattireland, visit this forum's sticky and take the Linux Distro Test to see what Linux edition is good for you. Then you can download the .iso from the official distribution server or mirror.

    LOL...Yes, many days for Gentoo....
