What size partition would you create to install Mint on? I have Vista crap on a partition and will install my antivirus and other programs there I guess.

Depends. How many user files are you planning on storing in your Mint partition? 10-15GiB is plenty if you don't plan on storing lots of music, video, personal files, etc.

I have 13 gigs for the root /, and 2 gigs for the swap, and the rest which is 70 gigs for /home. This is a pretty typical layout for / and /swap. The /home directory you want as large as you can afford because you will store data there like photos, music, whatever.

Yeah, you can start out with a modest 15gb partition and then go back and modify the partitions if you want to allocate more space to linux.

I have Ubuntu on a 10GB partition on my laptop... I keep data on my Windows partition. So it's got plenty of room to kick around there.
