I just download ubuntu 7.10 64 bits
here is the scenario:
I have a 120 GB hard disk, which has 2 partitions. 70 GB for vista, 50 for windows data. now i want to resize the 50GB into 20 and 30 gb, which 20 is for installing ubuntu.
i have installed 6.10, 7.04 so this is not the first time installing linux. but MY PROBLEM IS no matter how i resize my hard drive, in ubuntu partitioner it only shows me 2 options, "guided -- using entire disk" and "manual"
when i installed 7.04 there was something like "guided resize your hard drive and choose new size". i tried manual but i have not idea how to do that because it keep showing me "unusable" after a create a new ext3 partition. what can i do? or what is the problem?
(laptop, dell m1330, t7300 2.0 ghz , 8400gs, 2 gb ram)

Just do the manual method:
Create a swap partition double the size of your ram
Create a ext3 partition with a mount point of /
Also make sure the ext3 partition has the format checkbox ticked
As long as there is enough unpartitioned space on the drive for the partitions it should work fine. Give it a try and let us know how you go. -

He might like a 512 MB (or 1 GB, I have 800 MB) swap partition better. -
i solved it.
i had 2 partitions, and for somehow both are primary.
i just reinstalled again vista and made a primary and a logical partition
then i tried to install again ubuntu, and the guided resize option was available again, and i finished my ubuntu installation. (however i don't know using guided method, how much space will ubuntu shrink for swap :S)
above is what i actually did, and i don't if that was the problem
