Can anyone recomend a good linux based video editing software? It dosn't have to be profesional, although that would be nice, reliability is most important to me right now. I saw Cinelerra but I have read so many bad reports about it crashing that I got scared away. most of what I will be doing is editing some basic home movies. any recomendations or persional expirences?

I haven't tried any of the packages for video editing under linux as yet (I use FC Pro under OS X), but I've heard good things about LiVES and Kino.

The "pro" tool for doing it is Cinelerra. Really steep learning curve, but the software itself is great. Just hard to learn ;) Kino is good, but it's kinda flaky with codecs. Never heard of LiVES.

Do you have any problems with Cinelerra crashing or is that a thing of the past? Cinelerra seemed really good but like I said I kind of got scared away, should I not be concerned about this? the fellow(or girl, no one seems to know who he/she is) dosn't seem to be to concered with making it relaible that is why there is another version, somthing like Cinelerra CV, is being worked on I heard. What exactly do you mean by Kino being flaky?

Nothing that I've noticed at least. I don't do a ton of video editing though. Kino just didn't open a few videos I had, but they weren't just plain mpeg or anything, so I don't entirely blame it.
