Why don't you see if you like Linux by trying it out via the LiveCD?

If you do, go ahead an install it, and we can help you out with any questions you have.

Yes, I second Gautams suggestion, run it live first it's easy and harmless.

First, a good idea would be to tell us EXACTLY what hardware you have. That way we can warn you of any potential problems.

Burn it as an image file, use Nero or CDBurnerXP Pro for this step. Then make sure the computer is set to boot from CD first. Then stick the disk in the drive and restart the computer. There you go, Ubuntu Live CD!

    Note: Max RAM maximum 4GB
    ATI Radeon Xpress 1150

    Overheating, via liveCD.

Just a heads up... I myself have been trying out some live cds...

    I had a "problem" with a distro called Pclinux2007 (rev3)
    File name: livecd-TR3.iso
    690 MB (723,943,424 bytes)
    Downloaded:

"Little" problem was I had it in a docking station, booted it up and left it running for about 20 minutes..... using a external keyboard...

When by happen chance I noticed alot of HEAT comming off the unit, the area to the left of the touchpad being VERY HOT, keyboard area hot... and when I touched the underside of the unit (nx6325 RB526UT#ABA) it was hot enough to fry eggs on!

Don't know a thing about Linux, seems the HP's have known issues with the cooling fan(s) not working correctly.

Just thought I'd bring that up... something to be aware of...

That's just ridiculous, HP offer some computers with Linux pre-installed! Wonder why they say they don't give a hardware warranty.

*Is glad he bought Dell, despite their ACPI issues, at least they have generous warranties.*

I installed Edgy on my V3000Z, it works fine for me except the Alsa HDA-intel audio. Ubuntu use 1.0.11 alsa and only allow you to playback through speakers, no headphone available. I tried 14rc2 and 14rc3, none of them worked as it should in XP.

You shouldn't have any problem on wireless since you use Intel chip. Ubuntu use cpufreq to adjust the on demand frequency. I didn't try others.

6 gig is a bit of small if you really work on it rather just play around.
