So I decided to download Ubuntu today. Never used linux before and I am very impressed. The only problem I have is that I can't for the life of me figure out how to make ubuntu "see" my network. I tried the manual setup, entered the name of the network, type of security, password, etc.. and it simply wont connect.

Any idea of what I am doing wrong here?

Thanks guys, I would like to use ubuntu for my daily use but the wireless is a must.

Does your computer show any type of wireless activity? Does your wireless adapter work right out of the box or have you had to fuss with it a bit?

On my T60, wireless worked as soon as I installed.

Getting wireless to work in Linux can sometimes be a pain, although it was quite easy for me i have some experience. The best thing i could tell you to do is to grab your wireless adapter model number and Google around.

Vostro Guy: have you tried the Ubuntu Forums? There are a number of hits there for that card.

Have you loaded your machine with the Ubuntu LiveCD? and if so, did your wireless work there?

    Best to you.

well i looked into it for a good deal of time. came to the conclusion that Linux just isn't for me at this point in time. many things i like with ubuntu but to many things just don't work as i expect them.

You look for it on the adapter and the box. I actually found an article that would help you a lot, but if you would like to give up on Linux that's fine. I actually think we should have had you read the Linux is not windows article before you started this adventure.

That's not really my problem. I like the fact that it is different then windows. My problem is basic necessity's like my wireless internet wont work in Linux. I am sure I could eventually get it to work but I just don't feel like going threw the maze to get there.
