I'm getting no sound whatsoever running an Ubuntu box on my w3j. Ubuntu finds my card (supposedly i have a hda-intel card?) and i have the codecs installed. I also checked to see if anything is muted and nothing is muted. I'm not having much luck on the ubuntu forums so I thought I'd ask here ;)

I just had the same problem but i have a few questions for you about whats happening...

has sound ever worked? (mine just decided it wanted to quit one day)
what version are you on? (im on edgy 6.10)

how i fixed it was i went into system --> Administration --> Symnatec

once in there i searched for alsa and reinstalled the package, apparently this happens every once in a while to people at random times and the reinstallation of alsa fixes it....

heres my thread on ubuntu forums if you care to check it out

    good luck

I ended up getting it to work. I found a hda-intel article on the ubuntu wiki and compiled the alsa driver lib and utils from source. Whatever the version is in the repos it's not correct. Needless to say my sound works fine now :)
