Stupid little problems like this are why I hate linux.

Anyway, I have no idea what is going on here.

I turned on the computer and it comes up with "device is unmanaged" on the GUI network control. So I boot into the command line and set the IP address, netmas, dns, etc with ifconfig.

It has an ip address on the network, has dns, gateway, subnet mask configured properly, yet it will not connect.

    Anyone have any suggestions?

The IP address on eth0 (the only one that wants to work now) ...
    192.168.0.115
    Gateway 192.168.0.1
    DNS 192.168.0.1
    Netmask 255.255.255.0

I know the gateway computer works as I am posting from a computer going through it right now.

If you hate linux so much why use it, then?
Also, you could try manually adding an entry for it with network manager(the same tool that says "device unmanaged")

I have to use it for class projects, etc.

I was able to solve the problem by reinstalling. After a lot of trying withh /etc/init.d/network and /etc/network/interfaces it just would not work so I had to reinstall.

You just work around all those "little problems" on Windows since you're used to it. The difference is that you're new to Linux, so every little problem seems like a hurdle.

When is the last time you defragged on Windows? Ran a virus scan? Had to hunt down a driver from a company website to get some hardware working? Those are all Windows problems that you're working around in the same way that your interfaces issue is a Linux problem.

This is what google found for me on the issue: http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?p=5926426
