Has anyone installed Ubuntu 8.10 or 8.04 on the Sager NP5797 that might be able to give me a little feedback on what didn't work out of the box? What you might have done to fix issues, if any? I haven't had too much time to toy around with it to see what didn't work, just enough to initially boot off of the live cd to see that the res was wrong, but that can be easily fixed once nVidia's restricted driver is installed.

I used to have Ubuntu installed on my HP Pavilion DV7, and have worked with it since the days of 4.04 when I first heard about it. The days of Fedora Core 4, lol. :D

Didn't see another post around here about this particular laptop, even in the Sager and Clevo section of these forums. Appreciate everyone's feedback. :)

If it is a newer laptop, I'd install 9.04. It has better hardware recognition and is very stable in spite of its newness.

That's a great gaming machine you got here.....almost got one myself, but ended up with this Dell Precision for onsite because I work on it.....yep, use Ubuntu 9.04...I don't think you'll have any problems knowing that machine as I do.

Its been doing great with games, however Microsoft Studios started to make a lot of games only capable of running on Vista and higher. I might upgrade to Home Premium, just to play these games, however will use Ubuntu for everything else. Kind of annoying, but you get that with proprietary software.

Will go ahead and download 9.04 when I get another chance, excited to see what changes they have made.

Exactly the setup that I wanted to make on my hard drive. Haven't tried that particular game yet. Couple of my favorites so far are OpenArena and Battle for Wesnoth. Also a couple of the games for the ScummVM emulator and when Activision pulled a surprise and made a patch for Quake 4 to install and play on most major linux distributions.

Never heard of Warsow. Just looked it up on Wikipedia. Looks like a great game, enhanced version of Quake 3. I've got to check that one out too. Is it only a online game though? :(

Yeah, it is online only. I haven't been diligent enough to check to see when people are playing online. Too wedded to my Source games on my XP partition recently.

Well, everything worked out :D. Been dual-booting Windows Xp and Ubuntu 9.04 for about a month and have not had any problems. Correct video driver however resolution is a little small, had to reduce, but otherwise no software issues. Great edition of Ubuntu! :p
