    Quick question:
I'm switching to Ubuntu. I have an Intel T7300 chip in my Thinkpad T61. Should I install the x86 version or the AMD64 version of Ubuntu 7.10? Thanks.

If you intend to run any Windows applications with wine, or want flash to work without some work, you'll want to use the x86 version.

Use the AMD64 version even for Intel 64 bit chips.

I'm running 64bit Scientific Linux on my Thinkpad T61 and 64bit Ubuntu on my desktop. I chose 64bit because I do quite a bit of number crunching (Matlab/Fortran) and 64bit gives me some memory/speed advantage. But I agree with what others said: If working flash, Firefox plugins, audio/video codecs, etc. are first priority, x86 is the better choice. I got it all to work on my 64bit systems, but it requires some fiddling (Automatix for Ubuntu does a lot for you, but not all).

I browse the Ubuntu forums a lot, and have found many posts stating that for general usage, 32 bit is a lot less hassle...
