Would a 16GB USB Flash be big enough for a Ubuntu 11.10 32-Bit installation?

the recommended minimum size is slightly under 16 GB. -
So should I get a 16GB or 32GB USB 3.0 Flash drive if I want to be able to upgrade to 12.04 LTS in a couple months?
I'm only using the OS as an emergency backup OS if I have no other full blown OS that's working. So basically, just Ubuntu 11.10 (12.04 LTS) + 3GB swap and some software; no games or media files. -
You can get Ubuntu (and every other Debian-based distribution) on a 2GB stick. It just depends on what you install.

I want the Gnome interface and not interested in XFCE or any other Linux distros.

imo, 16gb is kind of overkill for a flash drive (even when running with persistence). I use a 4gb for distro testing, and even with installing additional software on it I never come close to filling it up. the only reason i could think of needing that much space is if you plan on putting lots of documents or music on it. In that case you might want to partition it so you have a separate area for your files because of the way persistence works.

should be fine on 16 easily

That's with 3GB swap and the possibility of upgrading to 12.04 LTS right?
I just want to make sure it fits on 16GB with at least 5GB or more to spare other wise I'd grab a 32GB USB 3.0 Flash drive anything smaller then 16GB does no take advantage of USB 3.0 speeds. -
I suggest a class 6+ 16gb+ sdhc card that you can just leave in your computer.

Very neat idea, never thought it it that way. Anyhow, cannot ignore these benchmark numbers for $20 besides its used for emergency OS and some playing around with.

That's faster than some 5400 RPM hard drives available on the reads which is what the OS will be doing most the time after everything is installed and configured.
