I have some folders on my main 500gb drive that I can't delete. They showed up when the HD was in the old computer but I can't delete the folders - not allowed.

I remember that Linux had problems with NTFS - would a Live CD or Ubunto or Opensuse allow me to delete these folders without problems?

Ubuntu. It ends with a u. Why is that such a common mistake?

Anyway, any Linux distro that has ntfs-3g should allow you to delete those files fine, and I'm 99% sure that includes the bootable LiveCD of Ubuntu.

Simple spelling error on my part I guess.

I'm downloading the iso now, hopefully it works.

I will be sure to make a backup beforehand anyway.

ntfs-3g is fully stable now, so it should work fine for you for deleting those folders. The NTFS volume should show up on the Ubuntu desktop but to write to it you will need to use the NTFS configuration tool under Applications->System Tools->NTFS Configuration Tool and/or right click on the NTFS volume and select mount read-write.
