Alright so I want to modify my current HDD so I can make a partition for Arch Linux
But it tells me my whole HDD is mounted
so I cannot modify it in anyway
is there a way that I can boot from GParted and modify it
I know I can with the Ubunutu install disk but
I gave it to a friend and my internet isnt so stable right now so downloading the live disk would be a huge pain
Any other way to unmount and modify?

You cab download a bootable version of gparted and use it to modify the partition without booting into Ubuntu.

Download the Gparted LiveCD and burn it and use it.

Or boot into your LiveCD and run GPartEd from there.

You want the hard drive to be mounted, otherwise it wouldn't be part of the filesystem and you'd have to do it yourself.

^^ You don't need to boot anything, using the LiveCD, install GParted (if its not already there) and use that.

    As I stated above
I do not currently have the LiveCD!
But I'll get the GParted Bootable disc
