Attention: the bulletin system is not functioning properly. Two of my posts appeared - both are also blank. Not user error. Thanks.

    Ladies and Gentlemen,

I am in the process of determining another system to purchase. I have my eye on the Fujitsu P771.

I can't seem to find any documentation relating to Linux or FreeBSD support (I will be running both) on them. From the components I can see listed at Fujitsu there seems to be no issues. Most of the components seem standard fare.

I am particularly interested in the support of three items: The optional Pico projector that fits in the bay, the circular scroll wheel that sits beside the trackpad, and the fingerprint reader. I know there is fingerprint support under Linux for the models that the ThinkPad line uses (I use the drivers/software regularly) but I can't find the model that Fujitsu uses in their systems so I can't search for driver support for it.

Finally, I have also been eyeing the Panasonic "Let's Note" J10. Has anyone run Linux on on of those before?

    With sincerest gratitude,

    Abe

It is hard to know about the P771 (which is certainly a nice system). I looked for info on the circular scroll wheel that Fujitsu uses but I was unable to find out if it is supported by any driver or even what its manufacturer and product name are, although it is probably made by Synaptics since that is the only mouse driver on the Fujitsu downloads page for that model. I also couldn't find a particular reference to Linux on it except for this, which I'm sure you have already found: https://lifebook.ts.fujitsu.com/blog/category/lifebook-p771/ubuntu-on-lifebook-p771/s

Fujitsu Laptop hotkeys and ACPI support are done through: http://git.kernel.org/?p=linux/kern...6666b37f21d63665d20724fdba709f5523973;hb=HEAD

Without a list of the specific hardware and chipsets it uses it is a guessing game...

    Groceries,

Thank you very much for the time you allotted to aiding me. I've decided on the P771 (I've already placed the order). I will post on my findings for booting into multiple OS's.

I highly doubt that I will be able to use the seemingly proprietary scroll wheel from Fujitsu in BSD/Linux - which disappoints me as I like trying uncommon interface implementations. I doubt anything will replace the trackpoint for me though. I really wished I could find an ultraportable from Fujitsu with ExpressCard that had a nub.

I noticed the X220 and N900 in your signature - I am sitting next to both literally as I type this. Great minds and what not, eh?

If the P771 doesn't suit it goes to my wife and I order the Panasonic J10 (Let's note) or the Clevo W110ER. I love my X220 but Lenovo has irked me with their constant degrading of the ThinkPad series and I am trying to wean myself off of my long relationship with the series.

    Thanks again,

    Abe
