Will SuSe 64-bit recognize all of my hardware (minus sound, that hasn;t been solved in 32b, but could it be fixed the same way as 32b?) and work out the box, like 8600mGT and wifi? I'm on an IFL90, and can't find a hardware list for 64 bit.

I have an IFL90 but I've not tried SUSE 64. Give it a spin and tell us how it goes.

I started a thread in the Compal forum about linux so stop in over there and see us too.

In general I've found the 64 bit versions are harder to get up and running so I generally stick with 32 bit systems. I don't think the development of 64 bit versions is prioritized. But maybe things are coming along?

Bootup is extremely fast. Wifi works, sound doesn't still like on Ubuntu. My 8600mGT is recognized but the drivers aren't installed so I am figuring that out as I type. Overall, I am satisfied, it is the same experience as the 32-bit but seems smoother.

Sound will work in Ubuntu 7.10 if you enable the backports for ALSA. The only hitch is that volume control doesn't work.

In Ubuntu 8.04, sound works perfectly out of the box. Just have to wait another week! 8.04 also seems to work much better with 8600mGT for whatever reason.

8.04 is out in a few days and solves most of the problems with the IFL90
