    Steps to install RH Linux on dell 1420 laptop?

    please let me know the steps for installing RH linux 9 on dell 1420 new laptop?
    is it that if i partition the C drive i loose the data?

    Not familiar with RH Linux, but if you want to keep the OS already installed and the data it contains, just downsize the partition where it lives and install Linux on the unused portion. You can use the entire disk, which will erase your data.

    If you're unsure exactly how to do this, you probably should back up whatever data and info is important for you to keep.


    Edit: Forgot to suggest GParted to help with the partitioning.

    vadan, is there a specific reason you want Red Hat 9? You will have a lot of trouble getting a 5-year-old distro working on brand-new hardware, if you can at all. I would go with Fedora 8 which is the latest community-driven Red Hat version.
