Hi all, I recently decided to try out Mandriva 8.0. I downloaded and installed it no problem, and it's now dual-booting with Windows Vista. It recognized my wireless card perfectly and I was able to connect without much trouble at all. However, I noticed that there is a big difference in connection speeds under Linux than what I get under Windows. Sometimes the speed is good and equals the speed I get under Windows, but a lot of the time it's noticeably slower and for some websites it gets excruciatingly slow. Anyone have any idea what could be the cause of this variation in speeds?

Also, is there a standby option or its equivalent in Linux? I find that if I leave the laptop alone for a while the screen goes blank to conserve energy I guess, but I can still hear the CPU/etc still on. On Windows when I put the laptop on standby everything stops until I resume. This seems like a very useful feature to not have, so I'm sure I just haven't figured it out yet. Any help is appreciated.
