    Shutdown and crackling noise

    I have a dv5t just installed ubuntu 8.10 whenever I shutdown or restart it gives me this loud crackling sound any ideas on how to fix it? :(

    They don't seem to lead to any solution, just work arounds that may work.

    Maybe linux just isn't for me...

    Looks like you need to unload the sound driver module before shutdown. You can make it into a shutdown script so that you don't have to run it manually.

    a old dell inspiron 6000 and in windows 7 windows xp and ubuntu they all had the crackle sound

    I think im gonna uninstall ubuntu and install fedora instead. The fix for ubuntu seems too difficult for me, while I do understand fedora is harder to use I dont think it will break my speakers. Hopefully I dont hear that noise again.

    I get it, too. I think it may partially be because of the move to pulse audio. I never used to get it when I was using older versions of Ubuntu with ALSA as the audio base.
