A few people here seem to have Sabayon, that has made me curious.

    1. Does one have to compile packages on it like Gentoo?
Does it have a large number of installable packages like the other distros?

    2. How is the user community support?

    3. How difficult is it to install /configure say as compared to Debian or CentOS or Fedora?

    4. Finally, what are the advantages of Sabayon linux over Debian/Ubuntu/CentOS/Scientific Linux?

    1. Yes and yes.

    2. Pretty good, haven't needed to use it to much.

    3. It uses Fedora's installer.

    5. Sabayon is well setup out of the box, but still gives a lot of control to the user.

    I suggest using this website.

    or this one:
    En:Main Page - Sabayon

I haven't been using Sabayon long..only for a few weeks..so i don't have really dug into it and I don't have all the dirty details..but as a past Ubuntu user it has been just as easy to use, IMO, and has offered a good OTB experience. sulfur offers a wide variety of installable packages and there hasn't been one i haven't been able to find..yet.
I wouldn't say there are advantages or disadvantages..all distros will have their advantages or disadvantages depending on the user and what they want out of a distro. also..as thomas mentioned..use google.. you'll find plenty of information through there.. :)

    Thanks.
Have you found Sabayon to be faster than other distros?

Not on my laptop...they're all fast...technically if you recompiled everything to your machine, and used a machine that a difference could be noticed, it could be.
