I can add this to the very short of distros that will boot up OTB on this Dell Precision:

    *buntu -all
    Debian 5.0
    Slackware 12.2
    Sabayon 4.1

Anyone using it? I used it back at 3.4 and it's come a long way.

Could always try a live CD. Sabayon was cool for beryl project.

I like some of the lighter weight remixes of Sabayon quite a bit but I see no point in installing the entire distribution. If they could regularly produce a cd-sized release, I think more people would get on board with Sabayon. It is a nice distro, just bloated with lots of stuff I will never use.

I have been trying to get Sabayon 4.1 to equo update properly for the past day but to no avail. I can get it to work on my MBP but not on my desktop. I run it in a VM. I keep getting an "Database does not exist online" error. I tried various suggestions on various threads I have found but I can't fix it.
I think I'm going back to 4.0 and update to 4.1 that way. I really like how 4.1 is easier & faster to install compared to 4.0. I only mention 4.0 is because that's the only other version I have used.

I have to agree with v1k1ng1001 on Sabayon having way too much bloatware for one's need. Nevertheless, It's a good distro and easy to use.

It's pretty nice...I may try an install and see if I can deconstruct it a bit :) I'm keeping Slack for sure on my Asus...I'm trying to settle in on something 'cool' for this DELL....Sabayon is definitely 'cool'...but I'm also trying Slackware -current here....that is definitely 'cool' as in stability and speed :D

EDIT: @fins4o8....you should break out of the Virtual Machine...let linux run free, in the wind! :D

Sabayon is nice indeed. I like how 4.1 looks over 4.0 out of the box but 4.0 seems to work better for me. I recently deleted my Vista BC partition on my MBP and tried to dual boot OSX and Sabayon 4.1. Couldn't get it to work properly as I was able to with 4.0. I have an old Dell E1705 that I have considered putting linux as the main OS but been too lazy. hehehe. Installing linux in a VM is so much easier.

Sometimes you cannot access Sabyon's online resources for whatever reason. Last year they were down for like two and a half weeks so I could not add key packages and updates. That is kind of annoying.

But ya Sabayon is incredibly easy to install and has great hardware recognition.

Thanks for the info. Good to know it wasn't me that screwed things up. I was starting to doubt myself.

I've ended up with 4.1 Sabayon on my DELL, and Slackware on my Asus...that should keep me tied up for a while.....lol The Sabayon really is pretty nice, I'm trying to streamline it now and see what I can do....taking a trip over to the forums...

when you installed S4.1 on your dell, what installation method did you end up using? I'm confused with UMPC option, you can use that for laptop right?

I don't even what that is yet...I did the main install....I haven't checked out the X box Media Center, or any of that yet. UMPC? I'll check it.
