    Does anyone else have a problem storing a VMWare .vmx file on a differ partition? Seems on Ubuntu VMWare only works if the .vmx file is on the same partition. I googled and found very few others with this problem, and also a private message with the same problem.

    In Windows I have no problem doing this. Not sure about other Linux distros yet.

    Anyone know of this?

    Hehehe that private message was me :D

    Another thing that's worth noting. I fiddled with the VMWare's CD location 'cause I didn't recognise /dev/scd0... Because I'm a total ubuntu newbie. So this time around I checked my fstab first, and it is indeed the correct place for my CD ROM :)

    I'm so happy that before I realised it, the windows began to install. So I'll test the move to different partitions after the install.

    Once again, much thanks LIVEFRMNYC!

    Also to note... I'm trying to move the .vmx to a NTFS partition...It seems like vmware doesn't have permission to access that. So how do I give it permission?

    Different partition or different directory? I currently have 2 EXT3 drive: 1 for / and the other for /home. I can read/use and move the .vmx file to either drive with no problem. As for having the .vmx file on an ntfs system - no clue. Sorry if I was no help :D.

    Try adding this line into your vmx file:
    mainMem.useNamedFile = "FALSE"

    I'm currently running my vm from a ntfs-3g mounted partition,
    without the above setting, I get permission error.
