I'm trying to install the Windows Version of Pro/E through wine, but when it asks me to choose the destination folder for install, it just says: "No write access to directory C:\Program Files. Check permissions and ownership."

Now, I understand that this "C:\" isn't my actual C in my XP partition, but the one in wine under "drive_c", so, what did I do/not do?

i tried working with wine 1.0 once to install itunes. i gave up, it seems buggy.

why not just run Pro/E in windows ?

i run CATIA v5 in Vista x64 with no issues....

I am running it in Windows, but the less I have to boot into Windows, the more I can look at my pretty Linux desktop. :)

hahaha! "maybe"? Why not. I'll give it a go.

EDIT: ProE's license file generator is "Down for maintenance". I'll try again some other time

latest stable release of wine is 1.0.1. i don't have Pro/E, so i can't tell if it will work in wine. i did itunes 7.7 in this version of wine last night. other than an error dialog about invalid registry entries, it plays my music fine.

i don't know how it handles graphics intense cad software, please post back and tell us u'r findings....

Why would you want to install iTunes when Linux has so many decent music players?

Nope: Still won't work. I did "sudo chown -R gary ~/.wine/drive_c" as well as "sudo chmod -R 777 ~/.wine/drive_c". Still nothing.

If you just want iTunes really badly, I'd recommend downloading a trial of CrossOver Pro(or another version with iTunes), you can install iTunes 4.x on it, but, it is very glitchy. The best option would be to just use another PC for iTunes, or a VM... Seriously, it's VERY glitchy, and no where near the newest version- most iPods would want to update iTunes.
RythmBox Music Player works REALLY well with my iPod.

thanks for the suggestions. but i installed 7.7 in Wine just to experiment. i am far from looking at Linux as a primary OS. just toying around with it at the moment....

wrt itunes as a music database, i like how it works, so it's what i choose to use.
