Today I finally deleted XP and installed Linux, with the entire HDD to itself. I was able to fix my touchpad sensitivity, install Beryl and VirtualBox, and get my internet going. Progress has been great.

The problem is that when I try to modify any of the documents backed up from XP on my portable 40GB HDD (NTFS), it says that I have no permission to do so. Worse still, when I try to change the permissions myself, it denies me. How can I fix this?

PS; does anyone know where to get FREE fonts?

You might need to use XP to take permissions back. By the way, do you hve the NTFS-3g drivers installed?

How would I rectify this in XP?

Update: when I copied these files back onto Kubuntu, the permissions were changed. Sorry for unnecessary posting.

Nevertheless, does anyone know a good place to download fonts?

I think automatix2 lets you install a whack of fonts, including all the microsoft truetype ones.

In case anyone cares, the easy way is to take ownership in XP (easier in professional), then you can get rid of the protection. But, copying them is just as good.
