Hey all, just installed Slax on a virtual box. I need to know how to make it so I can access all the folders/programs on my hard drive. I tried to make a shared folder, but I couldnt find the directory or how to open it. Any help would be appreciated.

if youre new to linux i wouldnt suggest slax (maybe just cuz i think it looks ugly), id always recommend ubuntu for people who've never messed with linux

i think you need to be a little more specific. what folders/programs are you trying to access? the ones in the virtual box (that come with slax) or your folders in your windows partition? if you mean folders/programs from windows, theres really no way to access them from inside a virtual machine, except in really roundabout ways like connecting to your own ip from within the virtual machine (someone please correct me if i'm wrong!)

Yes, I am trying to access programs on my windows partition, like winrar. The only reason I will be using linux for is to use Backtrack 3. Would it be easier for me just to find a program for unzipping a rar file for linux instead of doing the whole connect to IP thing?

EDIT: I am downloading Ubuntu for unrar support, then I wont need to worry about the other boring stuff.

One last question, I deleted the operating system Slax, but how do I delete all the log files, and programs that I downloaded into it?

that would be silly if linux didnt have unpacking programs...

ummm so i just looked up backtrack (unless youre talking about a different backtrack) and it is its own linux distro, which runs off a livecd. why did you install slax?

if you dont know what a livecd is: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Live_CD

so you never need to install backtrack 3, you just pop in the livecd and tell your comp to boot the cd instead of windows.

i say this all mostly because i looked up how to unrar in slax and it requires installing an unrar module and its not very user friendly. not like ubuntus "sudo apt-get install unrar" or fedoras "yum install unrar"

No, I understand that, but I just used Linux to run the program instead of using a Live CD because I am at my dads and do not have any writeable cd's. And yes, I will never go back to slax.

since you deleted the operating system, any other OS you install will overwrite everything. so while *technically* the files are still there, they don't take any space and it would take expensive software to find it (we're talking about thousands of $)

Definitely install Ubuntu, it's a lot easier to use than Slax.

For RAR support, Ubuntu has a package in the repositories called 'unrar', and it will add support for extracting files from RAR archives.

I thought BackTrack 3 was a liveCD and didn't require installation.

You can install it in the same way that you can install Slax. But if anyone gains access to your computer they will conveniently find all the penetration stuffs already loaded up and ready to go.
