I notice there is no option for multiple wallpapers in the desktop cube in Ubuntu 8.10 like there is in 8.04.

Is there any way to have multiple wallpapers on each cube?

No problem. I actually happened to be playing with compiz and when you mentioned it I remembered doing that at one point. I'm glad I could help.

I would be very appreciative if someone could tell me where the Compiz Fusion Control Settings can be found, or whether it is available for Intrepid Ibex yet; it doesn't show up when I search the APT cache or when I use Synaptic. I'm also looking for a small program that was available in Hardy that runs as a taskbar icon, allowing me to switch between Compiz and Metacity.

Are you talking about 'compizconfig-settings-manager' ?

Yes, but I have already found it. I used a program called Ubuntu Tweak that has a list of popular programs, the settings manager among them. Thanks though.

Yep, that's the answer. And if this does not work, then something is seriously screwed up with your installation.

I did that, the package was not found. I installed it using an alternative method.

    Yeah, sorry about that.

I was frustrated with the problem at hand, so I posted on just any thread.

The only problem with this I’m facing is then when you first login, before compiz starts, it loads your wallpaper selected from Appearances. Only then will it’ll load the compiz wallpapers.

This has the effect that if you use a transparent gnome-panel, the Appearances wallpaper will still be there behind the panel.

[Copied my post from the comments. I think you all have better help response.]

Haha, that is the EXACT problem I have! I learned to deal with the wallpaper showing up before switching to the one I have selected, and finally switched the panel from transparent to all black.

Thankfully I worked around it by having the Appearances wallpaper be a simple greyish colour, so when I do set gnome-panel to be transparent, it's still aesthetically tolerable. It's colour is #60625D, by the way. And I grey is pretty suitable to all colours.

Crazy question, but is there a chance you can have a different theme on each of those desktops? That would be awesome.
