What about running UBUNTU/other distribution live off a SD card? Will that work faster than using a cd? I save it to an iso on the card...

As I awnesered in the other topic. The .iso file is only a file in its state. When you burn it as a CD/DVD Image on a CD/DVD, it becomes bootable.
You can still isntall it on the card if your bios support booting from the SD Card -
There are certain distributions (such as DSL) that can be booted from a USB drive. Here is a tutorial for loading Gutsy onto a Flash drive.
Most laptops don't support booting from an SD card reader, and Linux distributions sometimes have issues reading from an SD card reader, so a flash drive would be a better and safer option. Plus, there are more instructions for it. -
