Hey, I've just ordered an hp dv7t. I can't wait to get Linux running on it, but I'm a little worried.

My current laptop is a 15" Toshiba with a hardware volume control wheel. The one I'll be getting has soft touch media keys for control of the volume, network card, and back/forward/pause/etc. media keys. There is no other external means to control the volume and I do a lot of productivity work (programming, etc) in Linux so I listen to music often.

Does anyone have experience with these and if they work well in Linux as of 2.6.28? Can they be mapped correctly? Do they work with Xorg's new HAL crap?

The dv5t and HDX16s and 18s also use these soft touch media keys so any owners of those can step up and let me know as well.

They send key events just like pressing any other keyboard button or using a hardware volume control. You may need to go into settings and assign the keys to the volume up and down stuff but otherwise they'll work fine

I had a DV7T running Ubuntu and a few other distros. Everything pretty much just worked.
