I've yet to hear of a Dell paired with an nvidia graphics card (most) that has had trouble with linux. Personally I've been using linux for three years or more on my inspiron 8200.

I am kinda hesitant about recommending Dell Precisions or 8x00 series laptops since I have heard that they have very bad cases of ACPI.

Using ACPI with those laptops usually results in errors, acpid not working etc.

Can you confirm if your model is exhibiting these side-effects??
