Has any one heard about this laptop "Lemote Yeeloong"? All system source files(BIOS, kernel, drivers etc.) are free software, no close firmware needed. But it seems that they didn't produce new product since 2008. Really sad :(

Yes, he was the one who pointed me into these laptops, he told me that they will produce a new laptop soon. But this was a little long time ago now. I hopr they will do it really soon. I admire their philosophy Libre Software in all !

There is a short review of it in the german Debianforum (unfortunately in german ;) ) [1].
This review is about a year old and it basically says that the OS on the Yeelong is basically a Debian Lenny and that Squeeze (testing back then) doesn't work due to missing drivers in the Debian kernel and an incompatibility of the Squeeze userland with the Yeelong-Lenny kernel. The repository for the Yeelong seems to be pretty limited but you can use regular Debian Lenny software as long as you keep the Yeelong-kernel.
gNewSense is said to work without any problems, but I doubt that will improve anything since the last release of gNewSense is even older than Lenny. I don't know if the Yeelong hardware is supported by Debian (testing or unstable) by now.

There is no closed firmware but there are multiple undocumented CPU bugs, and any info about them is in Chinese.

I remember looking at these a few years ago, they get *horrid* battery life.

You might want to look at an older system that has coreboot experimental support instead.
