I'm trying to select a replacement laptop for college that would run Linux. I'm told that Toshibas are good; but we could use some more alternatives. We are looking for 2Ghz processor, 512RAM, 40GB hardrive, nice video card, probably a 15" screen, wireless, ethernet, CD/DVD drive, under 8 lbs., ~$1399, BUT any advise about which manufacturer is best would be appreciated!

I know nothing about Linux, but I know a bunch of people at this site (http://www.r3000forums.com/viewforum.php?f=15&sid=608d2bf7980a4941104475ef9db7710b) are running Linux on their HP ZV5000/Compaq R3000 machines. I'm sure others run it as well, this just happens to be the one I know about.

    Hi,

    I have ASUS Z71v and I've installed :
    1) PLD Linux

    3) Windows XP Prof.

I use grub as system loader.
