Is there anyway to update KDE on 10.04 to something like 4.6? My system is incompatible with 11.04 for some reason(discussing in another thread) but I really want to use KDE 4.6 or 4.7. Is there any way around this? Would love to be able to have the best of both worlds. Thanks guys!

Why dont you give something else a try? I am running Open Suse in my laptop and PCLinuxOS in every other machine I have and they are sweet. They are both running KDE 4.6.5. They are both rolling release distros (although for Open Suse you need to enable this feature). So they should both be getting the KDE 4.7 update shortly.

After trying Open Suse for about five months now, I think I am ready to go back to PCLinuxOS on my laptop as well. Open Suse is fine, but PCLinuxOS has a few more polished touches that I miss.

I've tried OpenSuse, Debian, Fedora 15, and Fedora 16Alpha as well...all failed to shutdown the computer...

sweet! thanks, i'll give it a try later tonight and report back. i'm open to any other distros. i assume since i'm only getting recommendation for other distros that it's not possible to update KDE? lol

EDIT: looks like it's just a 32bit distro...that wont work since I need 64bit. I do a lot of work on virtual machines(sometimes multiple simultaneously) so I need to make use of all my RAM and not just 4GB.

The 64 bit version is in the works and should be release "very soon". In the mean time, there is a PAE kernel that you can use to make use of all your RAM. All you have to do is install it from Synaptic. The necessary changes to Grub are automatically made for you.

KDE just makes the Linux OS look like Vista or Seven. I have always loved the look of Kubuntu and more so openSUSE. I'm looking forward to try both. My issues with Kubuntu have always been power management and stability. I had the best luck and stability with K 11.04

Prior to that it was lockup city and crashes.
