Intel has recently released its PowerTOP utility, which will ultimately help Intel-based machines achieve better battery life and power management. The main benefit that I can see is that it will allow devs to see the biggest problems and bugs with the kernel and drivers/applications on an Intel-based system and allow them to patch them. Here is a list of already known bugs, as well as many fixes.

Oooh...that's really COOL. Thanks a lot, FTW (Peter? Sorry I think I forgot already...)
Everyone could use a bit more battery life. Do you think this (or something like it) will go into the Ubuntu repos? -

what config file ? -
Looks very promising, the site also mentions some good tweaks.

I think that eventually it will go into the Ubuntu repos, but it may not be until version 7.10. Like I said, I think the real benefit is for bug reporting and for devs. It would be a good package to include in alpha and beta releases of the OS. -
Come on, it only looks for most active process and suggest you to close it. If you are encoding a video, of course it is the most active process, but would you close it?

No, but if for some reason my X server was using more than it should, I could go hunting.
