I did today for the first time replaced my Win 7 to Ubuntu stable version and the problem I' am having is that when I had Win 7 on my Sony notebook I had a feature called Battery care function and set it so it will only charge 50% of the battery. Now I noticed that when I look at the battery controls on Ubuntu it doesn't have that feature and so that means I can't even set it back so it will charge to 100% now. How do I make the charge to set to normal meaning without battery care function? Since I will now never been able to fully charge my battery to 100% unless you guys know how I can some how disable the function. If I knew this I would of taken it out before I installed Ubuntu but I thought when I replace the system it will automaticly set to default will charge 100% but it didn't. I tried to reinstall the OS again and deleted everything but that didn't fix the problem. I would truely appreciate it if someone can help me.
My notebook is a Sony VPCEB3QFX/WI

Have you checked the BIOS for any settings related to the battery? If there isn't a setting, maybe resetting to user defaults in the BIOS will reset that battery charge limit.

There isn't anything about battery in bios also I did set it as default settings on the bios but that didn't fit the problem. I think I need to somehow have the Battery care function software so I can uncheck the feature so it will charge to 100% like it's normaly suppose to. But I don't know how I can get the software since it was pre loaded on to my OEM Win 7 system but I don't have that OEM anymore since I replaced it with Ubuntu. I thought that once I replace it everything will be gone and set to default so it will charge all the way to 100% like when it was new.

You can reinstall windows 7, unless your unit doesn't have a windows key on it (should be a sticker on the bottom)? Just go download an official iso for windows 7 and burn it to a disk or usb within ubuntu. Afterward you'll probably have to install some of the sony bloatware from their website to get that terrible battery gimmick back and adjust the settings to 100%.
For future reference: never format your HDD or replace your OS without a backup of the original. You never know when some quirky stuff like this will come up. -
That reminds me if there is a downloadable version of Win 7 is there one for XP Home? Since my netbook has Win XP Home and the key but I will need to download the OS for it. The netbook basicly came with Ubuntu since someone replaced it when I got it used. But my Sony notebook had Win 7 and has the key so I can probley just download the OS for Win 7 and install it. Thanks

If you have a spare laptop hard drive you could swap it in, install win7, then install the sony program needed to reset you battery care.
Speaking of that, you can find the sony software for your model here: http://esupport.sony.com/US/p/model-home.pl?mdl=VPCEB3QFXWI&LOC=3
I believe what you need is the Sony Notebook Utilities, which includes the Vaio Control Center software which has the Battery care you want.
You also could try just installing that program in ubuntu using the Wine software, although I doubt it will work, but its worth a try. -

For the F series there is a kernel driver that lets you set the battery charge level.

Not sure if it will work on the EB series. -
Actualy the sony notebook utilites doesnt have battery care function which is interesting since normaly it would have it. But eatherway I did try something out and basicly I took the battery and AC out and press and hold the power button for like 20 sec and I tired installing Ubuntu without the battery and it seemed like it did charge fully which is strange but maybe I didn't need to press the power button and hold it for 20 sec maybe it was that I had to remove the battery before installing Ubuntu again. But I did once install Win 7 again but still had problem so that's why I thought maybe if I remove the battery and install Ubuntu again it would fix it and it did. But I' am still testing it so make sure it will keep charging at 100% from now on. But maybe it fixed because I holded the power button.

I did use the battery till it was gone and then recharge it and it did fully charge to 100%. That is really strange that it's fixed now. I wonder what fixed the problem. I just assumed that taking the battery out while reinstalling the OS would work or taking the battery out and the AC and pressing the power button and holding it for 20 sec. But maybe someone can tell me what make my battery problem fix since I will need to know this so next time I can fix it faster. Or was it because I installed Win 7 again and then installed Ubuntu? All I know is that the notebook controls software from Sony doesn't have Battery care function. It was gone when I looked at the program so I don't know how I fixed the problem.

If you took the battery out for 10+ seconds without the ac adapter connected, the embedded controller would reset.

Well at first when I tried to take the battery out for 20 sec and put it back it didn't fix the problem. Then I tried doing it again and it didn't fix so I tried to take it out the whole night and also I pressed the power button and hold it for 20 sec and see if that will take alll of the power out. Then I installed Ubuntu without the battery connected and then after The OS is ready to use and the desktop is showing I put the battery back and then it will charging and it didnt stop at 50%.

Glad you got it worked out.
How to set battery charge 100% again.
