Hi, im trying to install Ubuntu 8.10 on my Samsung NC10 netbook.
Ive already got a bootable unetbootin pendrive set up and waiting to go, but im unsure of the procedure for installation when the hardrive that linux is going to be isntalled to is already partitioned up (in this case there are 3 partitions already on the drive - boot partition, recovery partition, data partition - each one around 80% full)
are there any pitfalls i can encounter when trying to isntall linux on this machine with that drive setup?
is linux (ubuntu 8.10 in this isntance) going to partition the drive without nuking data already on it?
is there any way i can partition the drive manually from within windows and then tell ubuntu to use that partition instead of trusting ubuntu not to mess things up?

The greatest thing ever. -
wow, thankyou very much for that.
does indeed look like a magical little program. will definitely check it out.

Personally, I'd trust gparted more than the windows partitioner.

+1 for GParted.
Download it, burn it to CD, boot from it and make an extended partition so you can have "/", "/home" and "swap" without any hassle.
Cheers. -
Don't forget to choose "manual configuration" as you start GParted.

wubi worked perfectly and even downloaded ubuntu for me aswell.
everything seems perfect and i didnt even need to partition anything. cool stuff. -
is there a problem with wubi and being able to use wireless networks?
if i boot ubuntu 8.10 from a live cd the network manager will list all available ssid's near me etc.
if i boot from the wubi installation the wireless networks are not listed at all in the network manager and the only thing that is listed is a eth0 connection.
How to install Ubunto 8.10 on a multi-partitioned windows xp drive?
