This static read-only archive was pulled by NBR forum users between January 20 and January 31, 2022, in an effort to make sure that the valuable technical information that had been posted on the forums is preserved.     How many processes are you running?

    I'm curious to hear how many processes other Linux geeks are running, and what kind of performance they are getting as Kubuntu is a bit sluggish compared to my fine-tuned XP installation.

    I'm running Kubuntu 6.10 w/ KDE 3.5.5 and 107 processes; I have Beryl, Ktorrent, Kopete, Knote, OO Quickstarter, Power Manager, and Klipboard running. I only have 35MB of RAM left over.

    I'm new to Linux and am using SimplyMepis 6.0 Linux (SML). I looked at my process manager and don't really know what I am looking at. Under "All Processes I have 93 lines of processes" but under "Own Processes" and with tree selected I have 21 processes with the tree collapsed 34 with tree expanded.

    Not booted on Linux(Ubuntu) at the moment, but I can tell you there are very few active processes on boot up & during log in time. Most of my processes that are shown are sleeping.
