Hi guys this is my first time posting here and I need some help installing Ubuntu 8.10 on my new Sager NP9262.

I recently upgraded from a HP dvt5 to a SAGER NP9262 custom built by Xotic PC.

    These are the specs:
    - 17" WUXGA "Glare Type" Super Clear Ultra Bright Glossy Screen (1920x1200)
    - ~Intel Core 2 QUAD Q9550 2.83GHz w/ 12MB L2 Cache - 1333MHz FSB
    - SLI ENABLED DUAL (2) 1,024MB (2,048MB TOTAL) PCI-Express nVidia 9800M GTX w/GDDR3 Video Cards (User Upgradeable)
    - ~ 4,096MB DDR2 800 (2 SODIMMS) Dual Channel Memory
    - ~ 2X Blue-Ray Read/8X DVDRW Super Multi Combo Drive
    - ~ 320GB 7200RPM (Serial-ATA II 300 - 16MB Cache) - Raid 0 configuration on first two hard drives only
    - ~ 320GB 7200RPM (Serial-ATA II 300 - 16MB Cache) - Raid 0 configuration on first two hard drives only
    - ~ 320GB 5400RPM (Serial-ATA II 300 - 8MB Cache)
    - Raid 0-Stripe (Combines primary and secondary hard drive)( (Requires Identical Sized Hard Drives)
    - Internal 7-in-1 Card Reader (MS/MS Pro/MS Duo/MS Pro Duo/SD/Mini-SD/MMC/RS)
    - Internal Bluetooth 2.0+ EDR
    - Built-in IntelĀ® PRO/Wireless 5300 802.11 a/g/n Wi-Fi Link
    - Built in 2.0 Megapixel Camera
    - External USB ATSC HDTV / Analog TV Tuner with EXPRESS CARD REMOTE (TVT-6010)
    - Sound Blaster Compatible 3D Audio - Included
    - Smart Li-ion Battery (12 Cell)
    - ~Windows Vista Ultimate 64-Bit Installed (64&32-Bit CD Included) w/ Drivers & Utilities CD's
    - 3 Year Labor* 1 Year Parts Warranty Lifetime 24/7

I recently restored the whole PC without RAID 0 and have set the drives to run their own OS.

The 1st and 2nd drives are running XP SP3 (32bit) and Vista Ultimate (64bit)

The third drive is planned to run Ubuntu 8.10 but that is where the trouble begins.

This is my first SAGER, and let me say I am more than impressed and glad that I did NOT choose a crap Alienware.

I am also a total newb to Linux and would like to learn more about the OS.

Ok back to my problem. Every time I try to install Ubuntu 8.10 I get this message:

MP-BIOS bug: 8254 timer not connected to IO-APIC there is more but I forgot to copy that part down.

I searched online and found this site

www dot linuxmint dot com/wiki/index dot php/Troubleshooting_your_Live_CD#Motherboard_problems

I tried pressing F6 and erasing the "quite splash" replacing it with "no apic" which got me past the message but then stopped at X server which it said failed.

I then rebooted and tried replacing "quite splash" with "ro single" which got me to a recovery menu with no cmd prompt.

The rest of the methods did not work which is why I am here.

Could someone please help me with this problem? Has anyone installed Ubuntu 8.10 on a SAGER NP9262 yet ( I assume that would be a yes but I don't see it in any search)

Try looking in your bios for something to do with apci or apic then switch that off and try again.

Go to bios find the option where you can select what os you want to boot. There are 3 options, Vista, XP and other. With the other you should get in linux just fine.
You'll have a bit of trouble getting the 9800GTX recognized though but is solvable. Also you might not have wireless, at least i couldn't get it running on mine neither the bluetooth. Other than that it runs well.

Hi guys thanks for the advice unfortunately neither solution(s) work. However, after many have suggested, I was able to get Ubuntu 8.04 running nicely.

Yea customer support at Xotic PC said the same thing, that I might have to do some digging to find proper drivers for my graphics card and bluetooth.

On my NP9262 I got the wireless bluetooth and Linux to work on it but I cant find the driver for my 9800M GTX. Can you guys help me find one. It gives me an option to use one restricted driver but it never works.
