HP is now using atheros wireless cards on some models including the G60-120US models. The atheros card works with linux better than the broadcom models that HP uses on other models. This information is hard to find and it is not clear on HP's web site which computers use which card.

It is ABGN, so it is probably an AR5008X chip. They are very good, I am using on in my thinkpad. Works great with Madwifi 0.10.5.6, doesn't work well with ath9k.

I'm hearin' that Ubuntu 8.10 supports several wireless chipsets that were a pain. Anyone had any luck with these Atheros cards and 8.10?

Yep!
My Atheros wireless, AR5008 rev1 according to lspci, has worked ootb for the first time with 8.10.
Bye, bye MadWifi. -
Broadcom support has also improved tenfold, it doesn't work in the Live CD, but is out of the box on the install.
And the ATI FOSS driver is enabled by default
Compiz in the Live CD! -
8.10 comes with the ath9k drivers, which are really spotty. If you have an Atheros chip, the Madwifi drivers are a better choice at this point.

compac has come out with it's version of the g60-120us called the Q60-215dx it uses broadcom wireless cards. This is strange since compaq uses atheros on it's other models
