Everything is pre-configured for you? That's awesome! I think I'd install the KDE desktop just for my taste.

EDIT: do the rest of their laptops run it too?

Every computer on that site offers Ubuntu as the only OS.

the pricing is also pretty good on it. It's really close to what I've seen elsewhere.

well, the listed pricing is for a pretty stripped down system. we're talking a celeron, 512MB RAM, etc. a pretty decent system is going to be $1200 or more.

not to rag on them, I think it's cool that there's a company out there doing this, and I suppose the pricing is like any computer manufacturer.

Yea now that I look at it the prices are a little high. That seems weird since the OS is free.

Yeah, I've found most places that do Linux preinstalled are a little more expensive than those with Windows installed.

Though, here in Australia, when placing an order with Dell, you can ring up and demand not to have Windows installed, and they will take $80 off the price.

I didn't know that when I bought my machine, but I have tested the theory since.

Is it only Dell you can do this with or is it with any dealer?

    Anyone ever tested it?

You can order most whitebooks without an Operating System if you want to.

the problem with places like system76 is that they are pretty low volume shops, so the prices are higher.
