O.K. so I finally gave in and I am replacing my (really) aging Shuttle SK41G XPC (Athlon 2600+, Radeon 9600, 1Gb DDR RAM, 135Gb IDE HDD) with a shinny new Shuttle SA76G2 XPC (Athlon II X2 245 Regor, Radeon 3000 integrated graphics, 4Gb DDR2 RAM, 250Gb SATA HDD).
My question is:
I have cloned the drive from the SK41G (using Clonezilla) and then expanded the partition to 250Gb using GParted and everything appears to have gone well. If I install this drive in the SA76G2 do I:
* need to edit Grub (IDE vs SATA drives) and how? Grub
* Will all the necessary drivers be there for me? Specs
Thanks for looking.

My first guess would be that you should be ok with both Grub, since it doesn't sound like you changed the partition numbering, just partition sizes, and with your drivers since you went from one AMD/ATI system to another. But it's only a guess because as close as the systems are, you will probably have some slight hardware differences between them, which could create a problem when you try to boot the system with the older Linux config.
For that reason, and others, I would recommend doing a fresh Linux installation onto your new system. I would also recommend repartitioning and reformatting you new system's HDD for a new installation. That way, you give the Linux install process the clean opportunity to configure your OS for your new hardware. Once my system was up and running, I would copy over all of the files I wanted from my older system. The only problem is in getting the new files over. In my case I simply leave the new machine running and nfs mount one system to the other, and then copy the files over the network from the old machine to the new one.
Good Luck.. -
Thanks jas, I will go with the clean install since everyone (opensuse forums) and here seems to agree.
