Will I notice significant changes in performance, or new features in Beryl/Compiz if I have the Intel X3100? How does the X3100 perform against GMA950? Since I don't game will I notice the difference between the two?
Note: In the title i mean GMA965 since X3100 is part of it

Doubt it. Its Opengl not DX10..
It works the same on a Intel Extrme 2 as it does on a 7800GTX(If not better. Intels big on linux drivers) -
How about from like an FPS perspective, will I get more FPS with X3100, or because I'm in Linux and I'm using OpenGL as opposed to DX the performance between 950 and X3100 is negligible?
-
X3100 itself is far better than GMA 950. It has hardware vertex shader, and etc.
You probably won't notice much of FPS since the Beryl/Compiz are not figured on FPS performance. -
how about for features like blur? I know blurring causes some lag, will X3100 alleviate that or is that a processor issue?
-
what processor. I never had any probs with a 2.6ghz Celeron + Intel Extreme 2 Or a 1.4 Pentium M + Intel Extreme 2. But i may have never tried it.
But it will be faster nomatter what. And may work a bit better. But i wouldnt buy a whole new laptop for its 1337 beryl skillz. Who knows it may not even work right because of drivers. -
right now im running Ubuntu on a Dell 700m 1.6ghz processor and Beryl runs alright on it. Even if I don't run Beryl will GMA950 vs X3100 make a difference in everyday computing?
-
graphically heavy= yes
Not graphics heavy= No.
Unless you get a faster proc. -
You'd want the X3100. It supports newer versions of OpenGL, and is generally a much more capable card. It will handle Beryl better than the 950.
