How is it not recognizing it? Just shows no hard drive present, or what? Can you do "fdisk /dev/sda" when you boot into a liveCD? I've never used Fedora, so I'm kinda shooting randomly.

Windows vista is already installed in that CD in a partition..but when I am trying to install fedora linux ..the list of hard dirves do not appear in a screen where the option comes "Select Drive(s) for installation"
The hard disk is SATA ..and I am not sure whether Fedora Linux 6 having kernel version 2.6.18.2 supports SATA or not... -
Your SATA controller may not have been supported until the 2.6.20 release, especially since the E500 appears to be Santa Rosa based. Consider getting the Fedora 7 release, and installing that instead. You may also see if you can set the drive into some sort of "compatibility mode" in the BIOS for the initial install of Fedora 6, and then after you update to a later kernel for FC6, you can set the drive back to the "normal" mode.

I think the Fedora project is on it's 8th release now, so try downloading their ISO image and loading Fedora Core 8.

It's actually Fedora Core 7 that's available as a stable release, which is why I suggested it. FC8 is in test release 2, which means there may be a number of things broken. FC7 ships with the 2.6.21.3 kernel, which should be more than adequate to get his SATA controller working properly. All things equal, I actually prefer Ubuntu, but that's just because I like the way Debian works better than Fedora

Ah, Fedora is on their 7th version. Thanks for the correction.
