Open Synaptic (package manager) --> install the package "startup-manager" --> change the default OS

Not that the "hard way" is all that hard, but having a little GUI would be nice... hahaha

    try

    sudo apt-get update
    sudo apt-get install startup-manager

(Hitting Tab after typing "start" should list all available packages)

Probably because you have to enable some repositories...
In Synaptic, click on Settings --> Repositories, under the tab Ubuntu software make sure that everything is checked.

    John -
Are you running Ubuntu? I don't remember. Downloaded "startup manager". How do you bring it up? I'm not sure where it went

    Thanks, John -
There it is, and with options for Appearance, Security, etc. Cool!

I had no idea there was anything like this available. Using Linux feels like a gift. People just keep giving out neat stuff.

Using vista feels like a burden.

I can't get it to install, even after checking all the repositories.

Should I try again after rebooting?

I'm not in Ubuntu now. I'll work with it more later...

When I do, is there some way to undo things? Like updates and installations? I followed some instructions I thought would enable sound (checked all the Ubuntu updates, including backports) and downloaded them (I think it was sudo apt-get install linux-backports-modules-generic) and after that not only did the sound not work, the icon had a red x by it, and when I clicked on it it gave me some error.

However, after downloading the codecs, media would play, but I wouldn't hear anything. :( Maybe it would have worked fine if I hadn't downloaded those backport updates?

And I can't get packages to install with the sudo apt-get install command, but I can find them by searching in the Synaptic package manager; I tried to download startup manager there, but after all the files had downloaded (I thought) I tried to exit, and it acted as if they still needed to be downloaded.

    I don't get it....
