I installed RealPlayer for streaming video on the net. It placed this icon the desktop which appears to be locked and I cannot remove. I prefer a clean desktop so I would prefer to get rid of it. I tried unchecking desktop icons in gconf-editor, but it remains though it did remove my other desktop icons. Anyone know how to dump it? I attached a photo if that helps. Thanks for any help.

Have you tried deleting it as root?
-
1- Open a terminal (ALT+F2 --> gnome-terminal)
2- Type 'sudo nautilus /home/your-username/Desktop'
3- Delete the icon -
Just as I suspected I have lost RealPlayer functionality. Closed the window before checking it, now I can't restore it from the trash can. Back to the drawing board.

Sorry! I didn't notice that it was a folder. I thought it was a shortcut.
How have you installed it the first time? With a .bin file that you downloaded to the desktop? -
I can recall exactly. I downloaded the bin file and ran a few instructions I found on the internet. I can probably just re-install it, but I'll be stuck with the folder.
-
Try the following steps:
1- Download the file from http://www.real.com/linux to the directory called 'Downloads' in your /home directory
2- Right-click on the file --> Properties --> Permissions and check 'Execute: Allow executing file as program'
3- Open a terminal and type cd /home/your-username/Downloads
4- Type chmod +x RealPlayer10GOLD.bin and press enter
5- Reinstall it by typing sudo ./RealPlayer10GOLD.bin -
Those were the commands I used before. Since I had it on the desktop before, that's were it put the folder. Now that I ran it from the download folder, that's were it resides now. Thanks.

Search for the package libstdc++5 in Synaptic and install it.
-
It is installed. Should I re-install it?
-
I just downloaded it again, then re-installed it and it worked. Must have been something wrong with the file.
