The laptop in the title of this post showed up in local stores over the weekend. Is this a good sign, meaning that Dell has E-450 APU Linux drivers, or a bad one that it does have drivers, but only compatible with older versions of Linux?

I believe you need atleast 11.04 to get Fusion support. Can anyone else comment on that? I could be wrong.

Linux Kernel 2.6.38.x and above. Also you can download the AMD/ATI drivers for Linux from the AMD website which also works, but the non-proprietary versions seem to work better as of now ( compared to 11.9).

You would definitely want to be running the latest version of Ubuntu, as opposed to earlier ones. (I'm not sure what Dell is doing offering 10.04 pre-loaded unless, as you suspect, it's been modified to support the new hardware). This Ubuntu forum thread has someone successfully using 11.04 on theirs.

I also don't think that the open source radeon driver support is ready yet, at least based on comments here, and more specifically based on the comments from this long Phoronix forum thread. So if I had one and wanted to run Ubuntu Linux on it now, I would start with 11.10, for the kernel 3.0 support, and I would stick with the proprietary AMD/ATI fglrx driver for now.

    Good Luck..

No, you're correct. That spec page says it's offered with Ubuntu 10.04. I suppose they could be installing 10.04, with upgraded kernel and fglrx drivers, which may be all that's needed. (I'd still upgrade mine to 11.10, if I got one). Since the US website configurator doesn't offer a Linux option, it's difficult to know what's what.

    Good Luck..
