I downloaded the latest ArchLinix core image and created a bootable USB drive using Unetbootin. When trying to boot into the ArchLinux installer I got the error that the boot device did could not be found after 30 seconds.

Tried the advice on this page, but it was a no go for me.

I than created a new USB installer using Pendrive and got a different error message (will post the error message later, it was kind of late at night and forgot to take note of it).

I knew this was going to be complicated, although I was not expecting to hit problems this early.

My laptop has a CDRom, and can go buy some writable media. But I think I will keep trying the USB install and scour more advice via Google, before I give up on the USB. It will by nice to crack this nut.

Eh... USB install in my experience has always been flaky. Just save yourself a lot of wasted time and burn the iso to a CD-R

    Will do. Thanks.

This will be the first time I use my DVD-ROM in 3+ years. I do not even know if it still works :)

Have you tried dd'ing it directly to the USB drive? This is always worked for me in the past.

    Code:
    dd if=/path/to/archlinux.iso of=/dev/sd[x]

I think I will postpone this till after the Christmas. I am free from Christmas till New Years. That should be enough time.

The rolling release model and build your own concept is really inticing and should be worth a bit of effort when you consider the time and effort in installing a new build every 6 months.
