I just found the tweak mentioned in the description of one Brazilian linux distro:
    http://distrowatch.com/?newsid=04524

It seems to be an experimental deb package:

It sounds very interesting, as they promise to boot into KDE in just 7 sec! Unfortunately, all the discussion is in portugese and I am not an expert in linux either in order to understand it enough for trying. So, I just attract your attenton to this interesting development hoping that someone maybe will be able to write a howto in English one day soon.

Babelfish sucks :(. I've been toying with a Linux distro for a while, and a 7 second boot sounds tasty, if I could just understand Portuguese.

Try using the google translator, worked pretty good for me. And 7 sec to boot!?!?!?!?! amazing, now just combine that w/ a SSD, 4 sec boot FTW!!!! I'm a fair newbie when it comes to Linux but I think I'm going to try out the resulinux distro, see if it's as amazing as they say, and I'm also going to try the tweak in ubuntu 7.10 when it comes out in < week. If I get it working, I'll make a how to for ya.

Hmm.. I read the installation instructions at http://resulinux.forumdebian.com.br/web/forum/viewtopic.php?t=2795
    and it says this:
    "CUIDADO!!!
Texas Flood NÃO surtirá efeito em distribuições baseadas no Upstart(como o Ubuntu), porque não será instalado corretamente.
Aguardem pela edição especial do Texas Flood for Ubuntu"

    that means
    "WARNING!!!
Texas Flood won't have any effect on Upstart-based distros (like Ubuntu), because it won't be installed correctly. Wait for the special Texas Flood Edition for Ubuntu"

Just in case you don't succeed and wonder why.
Anyway, that post is kinda old (almost a month), and maybe there are already Ubuntu-specific instructions. Good luck, anyway :)

In the Brazilian discussion there are claims that the tweak has been applied to Ubuntu and to Linux Mint (a better version of Ubuntu -).

I have also seen a post of the author of the tweak on the puppy linux forum
asking for help with English to make his tweak available to a wider audience.

I have observed an increase of Googled links to this tweak (there were none but a few Brazilian once when I posted it here), so there is hope that it will make its way to our faster booting linux lappys soon!

    Theres a brazilian here.

I'm not an expert in linux (yet) but i'm aiming to dual boot with Ubuntu or Kurumin distros in order to learn about it, as soon as my notebook arrives. I'm not a pc illiterate also, i'm graduating in computer engineering so im sure i can figure out stuff. If you need me to translate something that google cant, im sure i can do ;)

Its late now so i'm goin to bed, but maybe tomorrow i get a time and take a look at it, sounds interesting.
