I've tried PCLOS LXDE, Mint LXDE, Peppermint OS, WattOS and a couple other I can't remember....so far I'm liking Peppermint and WattOS, with a slight edge to WattOS...

Anyone else have any winners? :)

I liked peppermint and mint lxde, but didnt stick with them b/c i'm too used to gnome. peppermint is nice, but ultimately it's more of an internet-only OS. i'd rather add prism to mint than everything else back to peppermint.

I went with Peppermint to try out because it's based on Mint 9......no bugs so far like I had with Fedora LXDE....

Just FYI, it's made by the same guy who does Mint LXDE. They should be fairly similar.

Yes I know.....I just took a look at Dreamlinux 4, beta 6 or whatever just released, now _that_ is lookin' good...real good...but Peppermint is good...I like LXDE better than Xfce.....try installing crossover office in Xfce :) :)

Right now IMO the best LXDE spin is Peppermint....just to follow up....I've tried them all save Sabayon.

LXDE sucks right now. Buggy as heck. I'm not sure what you're using but LXDE has major problems and only a small team working on it.

Lubuntu is a joke and I have noticed bugs in Debian LXDE. Since Mint is based on Ubuntu and Lubuntu is basically LXDE on top of Ubuntu, I'd say that Mint LXDE probably has a similar experience unless Mint devs are working out the bugs. LXDE devs either work slow or overlook various ones for other tasks.

Why LXDE and not XFCE? I mean I do use LXDE in the form of Easy DEbian on my phone (see my sig). But, on a legacy desktop, XFCE seems nicer and light enough.

Beats me. I have read that Xubuntu was unable to be developed with the lesser resource footprint. I guess for having all the Gnome dependencies included or something?

I also read that xfce's footprint is a bit larger so unless the computer is REALLY old (Pentium 2/3/???), I would have thought XFCE is light enough.

Not an expert so not claiming anything, though. I just found issues with LXDE, unfortunately. Strange that other users sing its praises. I didn't find it to be ready yet...

Why not just install Arch Linux and put LXDE on it? :)

I've run KDE, Awesome, LXDE here.... (simultaneously).

Does anyone have any good links to articles on the differences & comparisons between gnome / kde / lxde / xfce / others?

If people like me quit using LXDE, nothing will happen on it....I've found it stable and bug free...with Peppermint that is, Fedora was another story.
